Although helpling uses technology to allocate resources efficiently, Benedikt Franke talks about how helpling is not part of the sharing economy or the on-demand economy. He thereby describes the business model of helpling and points out that in order for the organization to be successful in the long term, it has to provide value to and have a positive impact on all stakeholders involved. That measuring the impact of the sharing economy is a challenging task is also highlighted by Helen Goulden from Nesta. Different indicators have to be developed for different types of organizations and initiatives. The major problem thereby is that innovation outpaces research. One way to overcome this problem: Partner up with sharing economy organizations, cities and municipalities and develop and test new concepts in trials and experiments. Pieter van de Glind explains how this can be done. He has initiated a bottom-up movement to develop Amsterdam into a sharing city. This is done with the government, but is not dictated by it.
